Low
Voltage Transparent Mini Track Lighting
for Glass Display Cabinets and Counters Effective lighting for glass display cabinets is essential but can be both difficult to achieve or too expensive to justify. The system outlined below is versatile, very effective, extremely simple to install, and won't break the bank. The cornerstone of the system is an ultra slimline, 11mm x 5.3mm, transparent self adhesive track that can stick directly to glass, wood, or metal. Available in 1 or 2 metre lengths the track can be cut to size or connected to additional tracks using straight or flexible connectors. Any number of fittings can run on the track up to a maximum capacity of 300 watts. These provide adjustible illumination with minimum impact to the display space. Glass shades in 5 colourways are available for the fittings if required. Example: To illuminate a typical IKEA cabinet with 3 glass shelves. This will require 1 metre of Transparent Track, 3 or 4 Robot 1 fittings, 3 or 4 35mm 20watt lamps, an End Power Feed, a metre of single core 4mm low voltage flex and one 105va single output transformer - so simple to fit and costing £76.93 with three track fittings and £91.81 with four track fittings. The result will be infinitely better than 1 light shining from the top of the cabinet lighting the first shelf and little else. |

| These
are the components you will need to order: |

| Robot
1 Track fitting @ £13.13 each. You can have as many fittings as you
like on the track as long as the total power consumption is less than 300
watts. The most common lamps ordered are the 12volt 35mm lamps which are available at 20watts or 35watts - they cost £1.75 each and have a lifespan of 2000 hours. A long life 4000 hour "Mini-Mega" lamp is also available costing £2.50 each. These Mini Megas are 40% brighter and have constant luminous intensity throughout their life span. You can also use 50watt 50mm lamps but the smaller lamps are usually sufficient and make a smaller fottprint in the cabinet. LEDs can also be used - see below. |

The
end power feed is attached to the end of the track to receive the output
from the transformer. It can also be used to join tracks together. For the transparent track they cost £2.85 each and for the aluminium track £3.16 each. |

For
most cabinets 3 or 4 lights will be enough and the total wattage will enable
you to use an electronic transformer. These are small in size and can be
placed on the bottom shelf or on the top of the caninet. They should placed
not be more than 1m away from the end of the track and need to be joined
to the track via the end power feed with some 4mm single core low voltage
flex. 105va Transformer £12.95 each. 150va Transformer £15.95 each. 4mm low voltage flex £1.50 per metre. |

Transparent
Mini Track Lighting with LEDs for Glass Display Cabinets and Counters |
||
| The advantages in using LEDs are threefold. Firstly power consumption will be cut by at least 75%. Secondly there is very low maintenance as the lamps will last 20000 to 30000 hours. Thirdly there is a reduction of heat generated in the cabinet - this is especially advantageous when displaying silver jewellery as increases in heat will speed up the rate of oxidisation. LEDs are improving everyday but right now I can offer a 5watt high power LED that fits into the Robot lampholder that will give really impressive illumination. They need to be used in conjunction with a constant voltage LED driver instead of a 12volt transformer. | ||

Example: To illuminate a typical IKEA cabinet with 3 glass shelve with high power LEDss. This will require 1 metre of Transparent Track, 3 Robot 1 fittings, 3 x 5watt high power Cree LED lamps, an End Power Feed, a metre of single core 4mm low voltage flex and one 16watt constant voltage LED driver - Total Cost £127.18 If the lamps are on 8 hours a day, 6 days a week the extra cost installing this system will be recouperated within two years and thereafter you will be saving approx £2 per week running this LED system instead of a low voltage system. |
