Low
Voltage Transparent Mini Track Lighting
for Glass Display Cabinets and Counters Effective lighting for glass display cabinets is essential but can be both difficult to achieve or too expensive to justify. The system outlined below is versatile, very effective, extremely simple to install, and won't break the bank. The cornerstone of the system is an ultra slimline, 11mm x 5.3mm, transparent self adhesive track that can stick directly to glass, wood, or metal. Available in a 1.5metre length the track can be cut to size or connected to additional tracks using straight or flexible connectors. Any number of fittings can run on the track up to a maximum capacity of 300 watts. These provide adjustible illumination with minimum impact to the display space. Example: To illuminate a typical IKEA cabinet with 3 glass shelves. This will require 1 x 1.5m of Transparent Track, 4 x Robot fittings, 4 x 20watt lamps, 1 x End Power Feed, 1 x 1m of single core 4mm low voltage flex and 1 x 105va single output transformer and 1 x 3m roll of dedicated doublesided tape - so simple to fit and costing only £81.85 (Plus VAT and Carriage) The result will be infinitely better than 1 light shining from the top of the cabinet lighting the first shelf and little else. |

| These
are the components you will need to order: |
||
| Robot
Track fitting W186762 @ £7.50 each. You can have as many fittings
as you like on the track as long as the total power consumption is less
than 300 watts. The most common lamp ordered is the 12volt 20watt 60degree IRC lamp. These cost £2.95 each and have a lifespan of 5000 hours, stay the same brightness throughout their lifespan, and give off 30% more light than the standard 12volt halogen dichroics. A long life 4000 hour "Mini-Mega" 35mm lamp is also available giving a smaller footprint into the cabinet costing £2.50 each. These Mini Megas also have constant luminous intensity throughout their life span and are brighter than the standard dichroics. They have a max beam angle of 36 degrees. You can also use 35watt or 50watt lamps but the 20watt lamps are usually sufficient and create less heat in the cabinet. LEDs are now a very good alternative - for further information see below. |

Glu Trax W186015 measuring 150mm x 10mm x 5mm is ideal for fitting to
glass and simple to install. Dedicated double sided tape for this track
is available in 3m rolls or you can use any suitable adhesive. The 1.5m
track is £14.50 and a 3m roll of tape is £7.50. If fitting
the track to wood is may be better to use mounting clips- a pack of 10
will cost £5.50. |

The
end power feed is attached to the end of the track to receive the output
from the transformer. It can also be used to join tracks together. For the transparent track they cost £3.60 each W186952 and for the aluminium track £3.38 each E 865 10 |

For
most cabinets 3 or 4 lights will be enough and the total wattage will enable
you to use an 105va electronic transformer. These are small in size and
can be placed on the bottom shelf or on the top of the caninet. They should
placed not be more than 1m away from the end of the track and need to be
joined to the track via the end power feed with some 4mm single core low
voltage flex. The Aurora 105va single output round Transformer is £11.75 each. 4mm low voltage flex £1.50 per metre. |

Mini Track Lighting with LEDs for Glass Display Cabinets and Counters |

| The advantages in using LEDs are threefold. Firstly power consumption will be cut by at least 75%. Secondly there is very low maintenance as the lamps will last 20000 to 30000 hours or more. Thirdly there is a reduction of heat generated in the cabinet - this is especially advantageous when displaying silver jewellery as increases in heat will speed up the rate of oxidisation. LEDs are improving everyday but right now I can offer a 5watt high power LED that fits into the Robot lampholder that will give really impressive illumination. They need to be used in conjunction with either a constant voltage LED driver or a toroidal transformer. | ||

Example: To illuminate a typical IKEA cabinet with 3 glass shelve with high power LEDss. This will require 1 x 1.5metre of Transparent Track @ £14.50, a roll of double-sided tape @ £7.50, 3 x Robot fittings @ £7.50 each, 3 x 4watt high power LED lamps @ £15.95 each, an End Power Feed @ £3.60, a metre of single core 4mm low voltage flex @ £1.50 and one 15watt constant voltage LED driver @ £10.95 - Total Cost £108.40 If the lamps are on 8 hours a day, 6 days a week the extra cost installing this system will be recouperated within two years and thereafter you will be saving on running costs and lamp replacement. |
